Golden Kamuy Live-Action Film Unveils Trailer January 19 Premiere

An official website opened on Wednesday for the live-action film adaptation of Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy manga, and it unveiled a trailer, visual, cast, staff, and January 19 premiere.

The film stars:

The film is under the direction of Shigeaki Kubo, with production by CREDEUS. Tsutomu Kuroiwa is responsible for crafting the script, while Yutaka Yamada is composing the film's music. Ainu supervision is acknowledged to be the work of Hiroshi Nakagawa and Debo Akibe.

Satoru Noda initiated the manga's serialization in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in 2014, culminating in its conclusion in April 2022. The manga is being brought to English audiences by Viz Media, and its introductory volume is summarized as follows:

Set in the early twentieth century, Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto, a veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, battles to survive amid the postwar gold rush in Hokkaido's untamed wilderness. A chance discovery of a map leading to hidden Ainu gold propels him onto a perilous quest. However, Sugimoto is far from the sole pursuer, as those privy to the gold's existence are willing to resort to murder to secure it. Confronted with the unforgiving conditions of the northern wilds, cutthroat criminals, and renegade Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto's survival relies on his wits, fortune, and the companionship of Asirpa, a young Ainu girl.

The anime's initial television season made its debut in April 2018. Crunchyroll facilitated the streaming with English subtitles concurrent to its Japanese airing, while Funimation provided an English-dubbed version. Following this, the second season premiered in October 2018, available on Crunchyroll and Funimation platforms. The third season arrived in October 2020, with Crunchyroll presenting the series in Japanese and Funimation offering an English-dubbed alternative.

The anime's fourth season debuted in October 2022, airing episodes 1 to 6 (corresponding to episodes 37-42 of the complete anime series) before halting the broadcast. This pause was due to the unfortunate passing of a prominent unnamed staff member on November 1. The anime resumed its broadcast on April 3 with its first episode (designated as episode 37 within the broader anime sequence).

Excitingly, the green light has been granted for the creation of the anime's concluding arc.
