The stage play Spirited Away: Live on Stage, which is an adaptation of the Spirited Away anime film by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, will have its recorded performances shown in North American theaters on April 23, 25, 27, and May 2, according to a GKIDS announcement on Tuesday. Newly announced dates are April 25 and May 2.
The theatrical drama was performed in Japan by two separate casts. Two special recorded performances, each starring a different cast, will be shown on GKIDS.
Chihiro was portrayed by actresses Mone Kamishiraishi (your name., live-action Chihayafuru) and Kanna Hashimoto (Gintama, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Kingdom). The versions with Hashimoto and Kamishiraishi will be shown in North America on April 23 and 25 at 4:00 p.m. local time and on April 27 and May 2 at 7:00 p.m.
The cast also includes (in alternating performances):
Koharu Sugawara and Tomohiko Tsujimoto as Kaonashi (No-Face)
Miyu Sakihi and Fu Hinami as Lin and Chihiro's mother
Tomorowo Taguchi and Satoshi Hashimoto as Kamaji
From February to March 2022, the play was scheduled to run at TOHO's Imperial Theatre. After that, it was expected to tour to Osaka in April, Fukuoka in May, Sapporo in June, and Nagoya in June and July. Due to Park, Kamishiraishi, and other cast and staff members also having COVID-19, certain performances of the stage play in Nagoya and Fukuoka were postponed as a result of the COVID-19 diagnosis received by Hashimoto.
