Pompo: The Cinéphile Anime Film on Home Video on July 12, Digitally on June 28

GKIDS and Shout! Factory announced on Monday that the anime film adaptation of Shogo Sugitani's Pompo: The Cinéphile (Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san) manga would be released digitally on June 28 and on Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo on July 12 by GKIDS and Shout! Factory. The film was directed by Takayuki Hirao (The Garden of Sinners movie 5, God Eater) at CLAP. The characters were developed by Shingo Adachi (Sword Art Online, Wagnaria!!). Producer was Ryoichiro Matsuo (In This Corner of the World). Iori Kanzaki, a producer of Vocaloid, wrote three vocal tracks for the film. One insert song, "Tatoeba" (For Example), was sung by virtual singer Kaf, while the other insert song, "Hangyakusha no Bokura," was performed by DUSTCELL vocalist EMA (We the Rebels).

Sugitani began releasing the manga on the pixiv website in April 2017, under the pen name Ningen Plamo ("Human Plastic Model"). Since then, the manga has received over 500,000 views thanks to positive word-of-mouth on social networking sites and elsewhere. In 2018, the manga received a nomination for the 11th Manga Taisho awards. In July 2018, Sugitani released Fran: The Cinéphile (Eiga Daisuki Fran-chan NYALLYWOOD STUDIOS SERIES) as a spinoff manga on the pixiv Comic website.
