My Hero Academia: One's Justice Fantasy Roster

Last month Bandai Namco released a not-so-subtle announcement that they would be announcing a new game in development. The ad featured a microwave, and once clicked, an egg dropped out inscribed with “7 days left,” noting that the game would be officially announced on December 4th. For fans of My Hero Academia, or Boku No Hero Academia, the “egg in in a microwave” is what the protagonist Izuku Midoriya uses as a visual for controlling his newly accepted powers in One for All. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about (and you really should check it because the anime/manga are incredible) Bandai Namco has since announced their newest title in development My Hero Academia: One’s Justice. A 3D battle game, fights between heroes and possibly villains will wreak havoc on the environment around them. While we don’t yet know much about the game, we do know that both the protagonist of the series Izuku Midoriya and antagonist Tomura Shigaraki are confirmed for the game, and that it will release on PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. We will know more once a trailer is shown at Jump Festa, which takes place December 16th-17th. For now, please enjoy Anna Lindwasser and myself's top picks for the One's Justice roster.

Anna's Top Picks
1. Tsuyu Asui
Tsuyu Asui’s powers are basically “being a frog.” While that might not sound particularly useful in combat, if you watched the anime, you know it is. In game, one can imagine jumping to remarkable heights, catching items with her tongue, and more. Also, you’d get to hear her saying “kero!” (the Japanese onomatopoeia for frog sounds) which would make the match about a million times more fun.

2. Yuga Aoyama
Yuga Aoyama is a strange, enigmatic member of class 1-A. His quirk involves shooting lasers out of his belly, a fun mechanic for a video game. What makes Aoyama really stand out, though, is the fact that in the show, his aesthetic is that of a shojo heroine from the ‘80’s. What fighting game isn’t dramatically improved by the presence of sparkles and flowers in the background?

3. Present Mic
Want to scream at your friends without using your actual voice? Then Present Mic, a punk rocky teacher who can scream so loud that it literally makes people’s ears bleed, is the perfect choice. Chances are, he won’t be a playable character - being the series announcer, he’ll probably announce the fight outcomes or guide you through the character choice menu. That said, it’d still be pretty cool to have him as an option.

4. Momo Yaoyorozu
MomoYaoyorozu has a personality kind of like Hinata Hyuuga from Naruto, but she has a far more creative ability. She can transform her fat cells into any object she wants. It’s unclear exactly how this would transform into game mechanics - but the possibilities are endless, and they’d better include throwing little dolls, her favorite object to make.

5. Eraserhead
you want to be able to cancel out your opponent’s attacks, Eraserhead, also known as Shota Aizawa, would be an awesome character to fight with. Obviously, he’d need to be able to use offensive physical moves too, otherwise he’d be like a Pokémon who only knows Disable. As long as that’s taken care of, the actual combat experience would be fantastic. Plus, if you’re a perpetually exhausted millennial, he’s the most relatable character in the whole show.

Christine's Top Picks
6. Fumikage Tokoyami
If you’re a fan of balanced long range characters then Tokoyami and his quirk Dark Shadow are definitely for you. My personal favorite, Dark Shadow can quickly attack as well as defend Tokoyami while keeping his master far away from his opponent. While he is a “shadow” he has the ability to pick up physical objects as well and can act as a third arm. While Dark Shadow is very strong, he still has his weaknesses, and seems to lose his strength when fighting in sunlight or faced with enemies that create light with fire or lightning like Bakugo or Kaminari. This would leave Tokoyami wide open, who doesn’t seem to have any fighting moves on his own. Though you won’t want to fight him when the sun goes down. It’s then that Dark Shadow is at his greatest strength, and if he wasn’t intimidating already, then fighting him in those conditions is almost impossible.

7. Mei Hatsume
Mei Hatsume has only one goal in mind, for the big companies to see her “babies” or mechanical inventions she creates based on hero’s quirks. While she would be a great support hero, creating inventions for characters who need an extra boost, she is quite dangerous on her own. We see this in her match with Iida, where she is able to thwart him at every turn with metallic appendages that allowed her to avoid enemy attacks, and anti-gravity boots that allowed her to safely float to the ground. It’s most likely that if she’s included we will see her using the jet pack based on the Buster Hero, Air Jet. An unusual character with a manipulative personality, I think Hatsume would be a hell of a lot of fun to play in a 1v1 battle.

8. Best Jeanist
Tsunagu Hakamata, more formally known as Best Jeanist, is the No. 4 Pro Hero in a world full of superheros. What exactly gives him that high ranking title I wonder? Well first off, he is able to use the denim he is wearing to restrain even the strongest targets. He believes that heros should act positively and portray himself professionally at all times, and abhors brutes or unkept heros. Just like denim, Best Jeanist is extremely durable in a fight, able to take the brunt of a hit or multiple hits. So if you’re looking for a hero with high defense, he’s probably your best bet. Not only that, but he can manipulate other hero’s to some degree by controlling the clothes on their body. Just be careful if you’re wearing denim, as is the name, he is able to control that the best.

9. Mina Ashido
A hero with an appearance not of this world, Mina Ashido is able to secrete acid from her hands allowing her throw the white acidic goo, as well as her feet which allows her to glide and giving her highly controlled mobility. As we saw in the UA Sports Festival, she can use this to keep her distance while other characters attack, and then strike at the most opportune moment. While her quirk is Acid, she is physically strong as well, able to K.O her opponents with a strong left hook.

10. Ibara Shiozaki
A humble and mild-mannered hero from Class 1-B, Shiozaki is on a quest to “spread good across the world” as she mentions in her 1v1 with Kaminari. Not to be taken lightly, Shiozaki is able to use the vines embedded in her hair as both a shield and an attack. Her vines can separate from her hair, creating a wall between her and her opponent's attack. She can also use her vines in a sneak attack in which they burst from the ground and ensnare her opponent. Ibara attacks and moves quietly just like an assassin, just don’t say that to her face unless you want to face the sharp end of her thorns.
