Life-Size Gundam to Stay Until March 2024

The Gundam Factory Yokohama complex, which includes a moving, life-size RX-78-2 Gundam statue, will remain open until March 31, 2024, according to a Monday announcement on Sunrise's website. Despite the ongoing internal and international travel limitations brought on by COVID-19, the personnel acknowledged the continued broad interest in visiting the site.

The facility's initial closure date was set for March 31, 2022, although it has already been postponed once to March 31, 2023.In December 2020, the life-size, moving, 18-meter-tall (59-foot) Gundam had its grand opening for the general public.

There are four life-size Gundam statues on display at Bandai Namco right now. In September 2017, a life-size "transforming" monument of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam from the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime debuted at Tokyo's Diver City complex. In Yokohama in December 2020, Sunrise debuted the animated RX-78-2 Gundam statue from the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. In May 2021, the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam statue from Mobile Suit Gundam Seed made its debut in Shanghai.

(The RX-78-2 Gundam statue in Tokyo was replaced with the Unicorn Gundam statue.) The RX-93ffv Gundam premiered in Fukuoka's Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport in April 2022. It was mainly based on Amuro Ray's RX-93 Gundam (pronounced "Nu Gundam") that appeared in the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.
