Get Excited Swimming Fans - Free! Is Coming To The Big Screen!

Though fans of Free! will have to wait until summer for the release of Season 3, that wait is going to be just a little less painful with the release of Free! -Take Your Marks-

Thanks to Funimation and Asahi Broadcasting Company, American swimming anime fans will be able to see the third Free! movie on the big screen for one day only. The showing will be in Japanese with English subtitles, and it will include an animated introduction and pre-show greeting that have never before been available outside for Japan. There will also be a movie photo event.

The movie will serve as a bridge between the events of Season 2 and the events of Season 3. Here's the synopsis according to Funimation:

"Haru and Makoto are prepping to move to Tokyo, which means finding a place to live! While they’re off searching, Nagisa, Rei, and Gou are left coming up with something big to enlist new Iwatobi club members. But can they fill the pool or is the club’s future sinking fast?

Then, the boys of Samezuka are having their own time getting ready for the future! While Rin prepares for his move to Australia and Sousuke moves out of the dorm, Nitori and Momo want to do something big to thank their senpais. A visit to the hot springs should do the trick, right? But a misunderstanding about Gou could leave Rin unsettled and only a challenge in the water can set his mind at ease!"

Tickets go on sale February 13 for the March 14th showing, so Free! fans, take your (calendar) marks! Exact theater locations have not yet been announced. Those wishing to see the first two movies, don't worry. Funimation has also acquired the rights to the prequel film High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- and the Timeless Medley compilation films. Release dates TBA.
