Bring Home Some Old School SEGA with the Sega Genesis Mini
Way back in the 90s we had a gaming system that launched the “Console Wars.” Unfortunately, that same console would be undone by the mighty Nintendo, but that system still holds a place in the hearts of many 90s kids. The SEGA Genesis, or SEGA Mega Drive, launched in 1988 in Japan and in 1989 in North America. Now in 2019, we are getting the official SEGA Genesis Mini!

Seemingly coming out of nowhere, the Sega Genesis Mini was announced by SEGA on Twitter. The SEGA Genesis Mini will drop on September 19th and will have 40 preinstalled games. Sega is claiming that the console will be filled with “Legendary” titles from the console’s original lifetime and gave us a preview of some of the titles that will be on the Genesis Mini.

Starting with Sega’s mascot, the console will ship with the following games:
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (1993)
Ecco the Dolphin (1992)
Castlevania Bloodlines (1994)
Space Harrier II (1988)
Shining Force (1992)
ToeJam & Earl (1991)
Comix Zone (1995)
Altered Beast (1988)
Gunstar Heroes (1993)
More games will be revealed before the console’s release.
The SEGA Genesis Mini console is a mini recreation of the original version of the SEGA Genesis and SEGA Mega Drive. It is complete with the front facing switches and 16-bit logo in front of where the game cartridges would typically be inserted. Controller ports have been altered to make use of USB controllers which will be included with the console. The SEGA Genesis Mini is a genuine love letter to the original console which will absolutely cater to collectors and nostalgic gamers alike.
