5 Anime Series That Talk About Sex Without Showing It

When people think about anime and sex, they often think about hentai. That's a pretty fair association, but there's so much more out there than plain hentai. There are plenty of anime series out there that discuss sex without ever showing the viewer any lewd acts. Most of the time, these are comedies that make fun of young people's sexual journeys into adulthood. Others are show a darker or more complicated side of getting sexually involved with a person. We've compiled a list of five anime series you absolutely must see if you enjoy a good laugh about the lewd aspects of being a human.

B Gata H Kei

This series is probably one of the funniest sex-related comedies out there that has everything to do with a young woman trying to figure out her sexuality. Yamada is a young 15 year old girl that has a surprisingly common question; is this how it's supposed to look? Self conscious about how her privates look, she's made it her mission to sleep with 100 men.

However, it can't be just anyone. Her first partner needs to be inexperienced, so that she doesn't have to worry about being embarrassed. Knowing nothing about how to seduce a man, she chases after the unfortunate virgin Kosuda Takashi in hopes of finally gaining some experience.

B Gata H Kei never really shows any sexual acts and, if anything, is more an ecchi romantic comedy than anything. Would we recommend watching this in front of your mother? Probably not. But at the very least it isn't a full on hentai.

School Days

Makoto Itou is so incredibly shy he can't even confess to the girl he likes. Instead of telling her how he feels, he takes a photo of her on the train in secret. It's said that if you make your crush your wallpaper, it will be a charm that allows them to eventually realize their feelings for you. Things seem to take an unexpected turn when classmate Sekai Saionji sees the photo.

Determined to help the two get together, Sekai takes an unusual interest in Makoto that goes a little too far. The series starts off with this strange love triangle that eventually expands with Makoto abandoning his bashful nature and becoming more and more of a womanizer.

School Days is perhaps one of the most infamous anime series out there, known for it's strange story line revolving around sex and teenage love. We will warn you that it does get very graphic, but not in the way you think. We'd recommend watching it just for the sake of saying you've seen it.

Domestic Girlfriend

A more recent series than most on this list, Domestic Girlfriend has a complex plot that all starts off with raw emotions and the simple physicality of sex. Natsuo Fujii has been in love with his teacher for as long as he can remember. However, he's well aware that the relationship is one sided and that there's a slim chance Hina will ever feel anything for him. Things change when he goes to a mixer and is approached by the strange Rui Tachibana.

Rui asks Natsuo to sleep with her; not for love, but so she can gain experience. With nothing to lose, he agrees. Shortly after, he discovers that both Rui and Hina are sisters and, to make things worse, they are now his step-sisters. With his father's new marriage, the girls come to live with him, further complicating his emotions.

Domestic Girlfriend certainly seems to be a crowd favorite. Despite the risky title, this series actually does seem to talk more about a complex love story that has a love of forbidden elements in it. If you're looking for something more dramatic, this is a perfect fit.

My First Girlfriend is a Gal

Junichi is a high school virgin who is looking for one thing; his first girlfriend. Since it's spring, he's made it a goal to find a willing young lady to be his partner, but it looks like that task will be easier said than done. Being a bit of a social outcast that hangs around a band of merry misfits, Junichi isn't exactly off to a great start.

When his friends force him to confess to the gal, Yame Yukana, Junichi expects to be shot down; after all, it's not as though he really has feelings for Yame. Despite knowing that he probably only wants sex, Yame decides to say yes, starting a very new relationship full of firsts.

What's great about this anime is that it shows just how hurtful stereotypes can be. There are plenty of sexy scenes, but never anything explicit. If anything, Junichi learns how to respect his girlfriend, learning that appearances and dress doesn't show how willing a partner is.

Ao-chan Can't Study

Ao-chan Can't Study is actually a brand new series airing on Crunchyroll right now, and we'd highly recommend you see it! It's not easy being the daughter of a popular erotic novelist, but even Ao's name is a bit dirty. With a grudge against youthfulness and anything sexual, Ao's only focus these days is to graduate with good grades and get into an amazing university.

However, it seems that she has an admirer; fellow classmate Kijima confesses his love for her despite her disdain for him. Even though she clearly "hates" him, Ao realizes that she just can't get him out of her head, including the more lewd aspects of a relationship. Never on the same page, this couple goes through a variety of comedic obstacles as they learn more about each other.

Since this is a new series with short 12-minute episodes, it'll be super easy to catch up. The show actually seems to go over plenty of different aspects of sex while making it comical and humorous. You'll definitely get a laugh out of it!
