4 Places To Get Japanese Food Near AnimeNYC

AnimeNYC is coming to the Jacob Javits Center this weekend, which means that con-goers are going to have to figure out how to feed themselves. NYC offers amazing cuisine from every country in the world, but sometimes when you're at an anime convention, you want to stay on theme and get Japanese food. If so, there are some excellent options available within walking distance of the convention.

1. GoGo Curry - $

273 W 38th Street

Not only is GoGo Curry delicious, it's also good for your wallet. Here, you can get a full meal for under $10, a rarity in midtown. The take out restaurant serves up dishes of rice, cabbage, curry, and a choice of chicken or pork katsu, fried shrimp, or sausage. There are also plenty of topping options, including natto, pickled daikon, and eggs.

2. Tabata Ramen - $$

540 9th Ave

Tabata Ramen is a tasty ramen shop with plenty of great options for any palate. They carry basics like Tan Tan Men and shoyu ramen, but if you're feeling a little more daring, you can try the Dark Men, a black sesame based soup, or the aptly named Geki Kara Ramen, which literally translates to "hellishly spicy ramen." There's also non-ramen options like fried rice, salad, and curry.

3. Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop - $$

600 11th Avenue

If Tabata isn't calling your name, but you still want ramen, try the Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop. This Gotham West Market location offers standard ramen shop fare like shio ramen and pork belly buns, but it also has more unique options, like chicken paitan ramen and NY pastrami steamed buns. Only in New York.

If you get to the Gotham West Market and decide you're not in the mood for Japanese food after all, the food hall also offers tacos, ice cream, tapas, sandwiches, burgers, and more.

4. Sushi Fussion - $$

224 W 35th St

Sushi Fussian is a Kosher sushi spot that's great if you're keeping Kosher, or if you're a vegetarian. In fact, it's pretty good even no matter what your diet looks like. Sushi Fussion is a hole-in-the-wall takeout place that offers everything from salmon rolls to specialty sushi that uses Thai purple rice.

Note: Because this is a Kosher sushi place, its owners recognize Shabbat. It's a great lunch spot for the first day of the convention, but after 3 PM on Friday, it's closed through the weekend.
